Mental Health Awareness Week is a timely reminder that wellbeing isn’t just a personal priority, it’s a collective one. At Occuity, we see it as an opportunity to pause, reconnect, and reinforce the kind of culture we’re proud to be building every day.

To mark the week, our HR Manager, Golnaz Hajian, organised a simple but effective “Walk & Talk” morning for the team. Her idea was deliberately low-pressure: step away from the desk, grab a coffee, get some fresh air, and spend time talking with colleagues outside the usual flow of the working day.

Golnaz commented:

It’s easy to underestimate the impact of something like this. Even a short break can reset your mindset, lift energy levels, and create space for more open, natural conversations. In a busy week, those small moments of connection matter.

We stopped in at our local - The Lincoln Coffee House - for a tasty refreshment, and gae the owners a bit of lagh as over 20 of us entered en masse!

True to form, the British weather had other ideas. The morning came with a healthy dose of rain. But instead of putting a dampener on things, it became part of the experience. The team embraced it with good humour, and if anything, it made the whole thing more memorable. Along the way, many of the team also enjoyed spotting Reading’s famous Banksy artwork on Reading Gaol, adding an unexpected highlight to the walk.

While Mental Health Awareness Week is a great focal point, it’s not the only time we prioritise wellbeing. At Occuity, this is something we invest in consistently. Building a positive, supportive workplace culture doesn’t happen through one-off initiatives. It comes from ongoing effort, genuine care, and creating regular opportunities for people to come together.

Over the past year, that’s taken many forms. From Employee of the Month celebrations and team socials like bowling, to seasonal events including Bonfire Night and Christmas parties. We’ve also embraced moments of cultural connection, such as Diwali potlucks, alongside smaller gestures like Halloween and Easter treats. Each of these plays a role in strengthening team bonds and making people feel valued.

There’s a clear link between connection and performance. When people feel engaged and supported, they naturally collaborate more, take ownership, and contribute to a stronger business overall. It’s not just about morale, it’s about creating the conditions where people can do their best work.

Mental health and wellbeing are ongoing conversations, not one-off campaigns. And while a “Walk & Talk” might seem simple on the surface, it reflects a broader belief: that taking care of people is fundamental to building a successful, sustainable company.

As we continue to grow, that mindset stays the same. Because in the end, great businesses aren’t just built on innovation or strategy, they’re built by great teams.

If you’re interested in how Occuity is building a people-first culture, or you’re thinking about joining the team, we’d love to hear from you.
