We were delighted to recently feature in a new case study published by Renishaw, highlighting how their precision encoder technology is supporting the development of Occuity’s handheld optical health screening devices.
Renishaw is a leading global engineering and scientific technology company, best known for its expertise in precision measurement, motion control and metrology. The company designs and manufactures high‑accuracy components and systems used in demanding applications across medical devices, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, aerospace and scientific research. Renishaw is particularly well regarded for its encoder technologies, which provide extremely precise positional feedback in compact, reliable formats.
Titled “A window into the body – Occuity harnesses Renishaw encoders in life‑changing optical health screening devices”, the case study tells the story of how Occuity is combining advanced optical science with world‑class engineering to create non‑contact, portable devices designed to improve disease screening and monitoring.

The case study explores how Renishaw’s encoder solutions are being used within Occuity’s optical platform, helping enable the high‑precision positional measurement required for products such as the PM1 Pachymeter and the upcoming AX1 Axiometer™. For Occuity, using proven, high‑performance components allows the team to focus on innovation, usability and clinical impact, while maintaining confidence in the underlying engineering.
Working with Renishaw

Working with Renishaw has been a genuinely positive experience for the Occuity team. Developing medical technology at this level depends on trusted partners who understand the demands of accuracy, reliability and manufacturability, particularly when translating complex measurement systems into compact, handheld devices. Renishaw’s expertise and collaborative approach have played an important role in supporting that journey.
We were delighted with how the Renishaw team approached telling the Occuity story. The case study captures not only the technical detail, but also the broader purpose behind our work: using the eye as a window into the health of the body, initially supporting earlier diagnosis and better monitoring of conditions such as glaucoma and myopia, and also diabetes and Alzheimers Disease.
Being featured in the case study reflects the strength of Occuity’s growing network of partners and the increasing interest from leading engineering companies in our technology platform. As we continue to develop and scale our product range, collaborations with innovative organisations like Renishaw will remain an important part of how we bring new ideas from the lab into real‑world clinical settings.
