At Occuity, our mission is to create elegant, non-contact optical devices that bring advanced diagnostic capabilities into everyday healthcare settings. To achieve this, we invest deeply in research and development, pioneering new approaches in optical engineering. Central to this work is our intellectual property, which protects the originality of our technology and supports our global expansion.
Occuity is a very innovative company with a very talented team of engineers, and like any company working at the cutting edge of technology we are defined by our intellectual property.
Our patents underpin everything we do and give us the ability to expand globally with our ever increasing range of products.
Occuity has an extensive portfolio of patents covering the core elements of our technology platform; from our optical designs and how we align to the eye, all the way down to the hardware that underpins our measurement processes. We are always innovating, pushing boundaries and developing new technologies. Protecting this IP is a key part of our strategy and one that maintains our competitive advantage.
We are therefore delighted to announce that we have been notified of the intention to grant one of our new patents in the US.
This is a very significant patent for Occuity as it covers our linear scanning technology. This is a key enabling technology that underpins all of our devices; it is one of the elements that means we can achieve accuracy and precision comparable to that of much larger, more expensive devices in a hand-held, compact device.
A linear scanning system may sound simple, but it is far from it. Conventional technologies are often over-engineered, making them big, bulky and expensive, and perhaps more critically for a hand-held device, slow.
Occuity CTO, Dr. Robin Taylor, developed a completely new approach to solve this problem. This scanning solution is very compact, cost-effective and delivers the high speed, high precision motion required for a hand-held optical device.
The approval for grant in the US is very important because the US represents half the world market for most medical products. It is therefore an extremely important market for Occuity and having patent protection there is vital to underpin commercial success.
Robin commented:
“This new linear scanning patent is very important for Occuity as the technology is at the heart of all our products. We’re delighted that the US Patent Office has recognised the innovation within the idea and we look forward to extending this patent into further territories as we progress.”
Looking Ahead
This patent strengthens our platform, reinforces our competitive position and supports our long-term commercial strategy. As we continue to develop and launch new devices, securing and protecting the core innovations behind them remains essential. We look forward to sharing further progress in the months ahead.
