Rachel joined Occuity in October 2021, as our Grants Writer. With 10 years' of experience in the scientific industry, we are very excited to have her on board to craft our funding applications which will play an important role in supporting our research and development activity.
Rachel's biological background, which started with her degree in Physiology and was followed by a Master of Research, PhD, and Postdocs, all looked at the topic of skeletal muscle ageing. At the end of her time in academia, Rachel also worked as a biomaterialist, investigating treatments for Aged Related Macular degeneration. She is also PRINCE2 qualified.
Prior to joining Occuity, Rachel was Grants Officer at Medicines Discovery Catapult, where she was responsible for collaborating with SMEs to assist them to access the funding required to help them move from concepts to market-ready products.
Professionally she describes herself as an "excellent communicator with a determination to help SMEs thrive, a proven multi-tasker and team player with great project management and literacy skills."

What do you think of Occuity’s work so far?
Occuity’s work is not only really exciting but also really important. What I was most impressed about Occuity is that they are really focused on where there is a health need and where their technology can improve people’s lives.
What is your role at Occuity and why is it important?
My role at Occuity is as a grant writer. Bringing in grant money allows new products to be developed, as well as potentially the freedom to do spin-off projects, that may lead to new products or improvements to current products. Grant funding is also vital in getting products to a point where individuals are willing to invest in the company.
Which project/device are you most excited about and why?
The screening devices. Prevention of disease is better than any cure, and I think moving forward this device will be tweaked to detect many different diseases, thus having a huge impact on the health and quality of millions of people's lives, allowing them to live a longer, happier life.
What do you think Occuity’s future will look like?
I think Occuity will be extremely successful with many more products. It is exciting to be a part of it, watching and helping it grow.
