Michael Smith is an experienced and well-qualified Project Manager and Electronics Engineer who is joining Occuity as our Technical Lead. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated an exceptional ability to manage complex technical projects and lead teams to successful outcomes. At Occuity, Michael will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of all projects, developing new technologies, and ensuring that the team is working efficiently towards achieving the company's goals. His skills and experience make him a valuable asset to the Occuity team and an excellent addition to the company's leadership.
He is also a Chartered Engineer which is further backed by his solid education, current project management techniques (PRINCE2 Practitioner, Certified Agile Scrum Master, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt) and people management (CMI Certificate in Management and Leadership).
We had a chance to catch up with Mike and reflect on his experiences being part of the leadership team at Occuity and what project excites him the most.
How did you get involved in Occuity and why did you feel it was the right thing for you?
I heard about the opportunity through a friend of someone who works at Occuity. I feel personal connections are always a good indicator of cultural fit and whether the ethos will suit me. I was impressed by Occuity's achievements and the opportunity to lead the technical team in an innovative environment arose at the same time as I was looking for my next career move.
Through my interview process, I had discussions with many of the senior leaders and met many members of the R&D team. I was really impressed by everyone's drive, intelligence and commitment but, most importantly, everyone was very open, personable and welcoming.
What is your position at Occuity and why is your role important?
I am the Technical Lead for R&D; I feel my role is important to help deliver Occuity's state of the art products and support the roadmap of future projects. I am hoping to draw upon my experience as an electronics engineer, systems engineer and project manager to achieve Occuity's vision to improve the lives of millions of people.
What excites you the most about your job and Occuity?
Occuity is an ambitious and driven company; those attributes resonate with me.
I am excited to be part of a team developing state of the art solutions to improve people's lives. I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge and experience and benefiting from the multi-skilled team’s creativity and proficiency to deliver inventive solutions.
